It seemed that yarn bombers had struck in Ossett, West Yorkshire, when Hubby and I arrived in the town yesterday.

Sadly, this wasn’t true guerilla knitting, but the left-overs from a mass knit that had been organised as part of “Flock to Ossett”, a one-day festival which had been held to promote the town.  Be that as it may, it still made us grin to see the Tree Cosy, the Sign Cosy and the Bike Cosy… Pedal cosies, anyone?

Aran JumperHere’s the latest offering to the nieces: This time an Aran jumper for my younger niece.  The colours make me think of pistachio and vanilla ice cream, so in my head it’s become the ice cream jumper.

I knitted the entire jumper in the round (on circular needles for the uninitiated).  It got a little fiddly around the cuffs, but this soon eased as the sleeves grew.   Knitting the jumper in the round meant that the only sewing of seams needed was to attach the sleeves to the body. What a boon!

The jumper’s for Younger Niece’s first birthday, but I have a habit of knitting pieces to be grown into and looking at the size of the finished item this will prove to be no exception.

Many Happy Returns!

Aran PonchoLook to the right, then tilt your head to the right and you’ll see what I’ve just finished knitting: A poncho in Aran Tweed wool as a birthday present for my eldest niece.  The wool manufacturer, Sirdar, is a local company that has been open for business for over 130 years.  We’re lucky to have a lovely wool shop in our village: The Spinning Wheel , so I don’t travel too far for inspiration, wool and equipment.

Don’t listen to the rugby match on the radio and knit an intricate Aran pattern at the same time.  It really doesn’t work.
